Went to look at a SHE 31 in Gillingham marina, up for sale at a price that’s just in my budget. Looked pretty good from the outside, I was concerned that a 31 footer would be to big for me to manage on my own. But walking around on deck it all looked very 'do-able' . The boat named 'Witchdoctor' is a racer/cruiser that has been re-modeled inside by a previous owner. I am meeting the seller in the morning for a proper look round.
I am quite excited by this one and think maybe this could be it….we shall see.

Went back to Gillingham marina to have a look round the She 31 with the owner. Seemed like a decent enough guy. First impressions were that it was not as mouldy and stinky as most of the boats I have seen and I very much liked the way the boat was set out below, with a decent sized galley area on the starboard side and a U shaped settee and table to port. The chart table was large and folded away when not in use. The forepeak was clean and dry and although the heads were a bit manky they would clean up OK. The upholstery was in good condition and would be servicable
Also I phoned up an insurance company to find out the cost and was told they would not insure me without a day skippers ticket. Which is a bit frustrating as I could easily have passed this when I did my course with Elite sailing in the early Spring. But hey-ho, I shall have to phone up a few more insurance companies and see if there is a way round this.
